Planned maintenance strengthens reliability, safety and Hawaiʻi’s energy security
In August 2026, Par Hawaii completed a major $60 Million planned turnaround at its Kapolei refinery—an extensive maintenance effort designed to improve reliability, enhance operational performance and support the refinery’s continued safe operation.
The turnaround was the refinery’s first major maintenance shutdown since 2020. It brought together approximately 300 Par Hawaii refinery employees and more than 800 skilled contractors to inspect, maintain, repair and upgrade critical refinery equipment and systems.
Completing a turnaround of this scale requires months of preparation and close coordination among operations, maintenance, engineering, safety and contractor teams. The successful completion reflects the experience, teamwork and dedication of the people who work behind the scenes to keep Hawaiʻi moving.
The project also generated significant economic activity by supporting local contractors, tradespeople, suppliers and service providers. These partnerships demonstrate the Power of Local—local employees and businesses working together to strengthen infrastructure that Hawaiʻi depends on every day.
As the state’s only refinery, Par Hawaii plays a critical role in supplying the fuels needed for ground transportation, aviation, maritime operations, utilities and emergency response. Investments in refinery maintenance and reliability help protect Hawaiʻi’s fuel supply while the company continues expanding its renewable-fuels capabilities and supporting the state’s energy transition.
Par Hawaii extends its appreciation to its employees, contractors, community partners and neighboring businesses for their cooperation and support throughout the turnaround.
